Our Work
Connect the Local Nuclear Community
We bring together professionals, students, interns, retirees, educators, companies, laboratories, and community partners across the Oak Ridge/Knoxville region.
Share Nuclear Science and Technology
We support technical talks, dinner meetings, tours, and discussions that help members stay connected to current work in nuclear science and engineering.
Support Outreach and Education
We help introduce students, teachers, and the public to nuclear science through outreach events, classroom activities, demonstrations, and community programs.
Encourage Students and Early-Career Members
We support student engagement, scholarships, networking, and connections between student sections and the broader local nuclear community.
Committee Areas
The section's committees help organize this work throughout the year. You do not need to be an officer or formal committee member to help; ANS members, students, interns, educators, retirees, companies, schools, community partners, and other volunteers are welcome to contribute where they can.
Program
Helps plan dinner meetings, socials, speakers, venues, and other section programs.
Outreach
Helps coordinate outreach events, K-12 activities, teacher engagement, demonstrations, and public-facing nuclear science activities.
Finance
Helps with the section budget, spending, reimbursements, event costs, scholarships, and financial planning.
Webmaster
Helps maintain the website, event posts, announcements, newsletters, photos, and section records.
Student Engagement
Helps coordinate with student sections, support scholarship activities, and connect students and interns with the local nuclear community.
Professional Engagement
Helps with membership, professional society coordination, publicity, and engagement with local nuclear professionals.
Private Industry Engagement
Helps connect with private companies in the region, including coordination for speakers, tours, sponsorships, and participation in section activities.
Get Involved
OR/K ANS welcomes help from members and non-members. You can volunteer for a single event, suggest an activity, host a speaker or tour, help with outreach, connect us with students or companies, or support committee work throughout the year.
